ABSTRACT

Objective: To present intervention research developed by the authors in the form of artistic and educational activities, called aesthetic experiments, analyzing them and their effects as a practical-theoretical set directed themselves, each other and the environment. Methods: It was built from the authors’ experience with research practices inspired by studies of The Three Ecologies and socialpoetics methodology, being used in the analysis face-to-face writing of the participants during the workshop and the answers to the questions sent by e-mail. Results: They point to the overcoming of inner fears and the discovery of personal potential to face challenges. The sensibility of the gaze and the involvement with the other as a fundamental element in the exercise of confidence in daily relationships. Conclusion: The experimentation process indicates that there is a power of the meeting, the exchange and sensibility when we privilege knowledge that is learned with the body in motion, relating to the other and the world.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To validate the feasibility of real time kinematography with four-dimensional (4D) dynamic functional wrist joint imaging using dual source CT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two healthy volunteers performed radioulnar deviation and pronation-supination wrist motions for 10 s and 4 s per cycle in a dual source CT scanner. Scan and reconstruction protocols were set to optimize temporal resolution. Cine images of the reconstructed carpal bone of the moving wrist were recorded. The quality of the images and radiation dosage were evaluated. RESULTS: The 4D cine images obtained during 4 s and 10 s of radioulnar motion showed a smooth stream of movement with good quality and little noise or artifact. Images from the pronation-supination motion showed noise with a masked surface contour. The temporal resolution was optimized at 0.28 s. CONCLUSION: Using dual source CT, 4D cine images of in vivo kinematics of wrist joint movement were obtained and found to have a shorter scan time, improved temporal resolution and lower radiation dosages compared with those previously reported.

ABSTRACT

A total of 3622 physicians registered in the Association of Physicians of India were contacted through mail and requested to respond to a semistructured questionnaire pertaining to different aspects of medical ethics, with particular focus on informed consent. Six hundred twenty-nine physicians (17.4%) responded to the questionnaire; 86% of the respondents reported having had no formal training in medical ethics; 49% of the subjects who undertook research obtained oral consent only. Majority of the respondents noted the relevance of ethics in different medical situations, though in certain areas like community health and research using animals ethical issues were felt to be less important. Patients' inability to come for regular follow-up and illiteracy were opined to be the main constraints in obtaining consent. Opinion on the amount of information to be imported to research participants as part of informed consent was at variance with standard guidelines. Physicians who reported having had an orientation course in medical ethics and those with prior research experience were more aware of ethical issues. Majority of the professionals desired for inclusion of ethics in medical curriculum.
